Operation Encompass
The school has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident.
Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident. We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved. Adults who have been trained to receive this call are Mr Tom Paddon and Mrs Claire Paton.

Domestic Abuse
The Number of reported cases of domestic violence has risen since Covid 19 lockdown began. SafeLives, the UK-wide charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse, have released the following information to support families.
We know that this is a difficult and worrying time for everyone – but particularly so for adults and children living with domestic abuse, and the professionals working hard to support them. On this page we will be sharing resources to help support you through this time, and will be adding more as things progress. As always, if you or someone else is in immediate danger please call 999 and ask for the police. Silent calls will work if you are not safe to speak – use the Silent Solution system and call 999 and then press 55.

Prevent
What is the Prevent strategy?
Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes.
The Prevent strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes.
From July 2015 all schools have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. We do this by training our staff to be able to recognise those who may be vulnerable to radicalisation and know what to do when they are identified. We ensure we build pupils’ resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British values and enabling them to challenge extremist views.
The Prevent strategy is not just about discussing extremism itself, which may not be appropriate for younger children. However, it is about teaching children values such as tolerance and mutual respect.
Below is a great website for further information, advice and support about how you can help safeguard your child from radicalisation.
NSPCC - PANTS
The Underwear Rule – PANTS
The NSPCC’s “Underwear Rule” campaign- also known as the PANTS campaign – has been supporting and encouraging parents and schools to talk to children aged between four and 11 about staying safe from sexual abuse.
From P through to S, each letter gives an important message for children as young as four to help them stay safe.
The PANTS tools and resources give adults clear and simple ways to open these conversations in a clear and child-friendly way. The key messages for children are:
- P – Privates are privates
- A – Always remember your body belongs to you
- N – No means no
- T – Talk about secrets that upset you
- S – Speak up, someone can help.
At Castle Primary School we fully support and deliver the PANTS message to our children.
