At Castle, we believe that music is an essential part of every child's education. Through our Charanga-based curriculum, we aim to develop confident, creative and enthusiastic musicians who enjoy making music and appreciate a wide range of musical styles, genres and cultures.

Our curriculum provides all pupils with opportunities to sing, listen, compose, perform and evaluate music. Learning is carefully sequenced to build musical knowledge and skills progressively throughout the primary years. Through regular exposure to high-quality musical experiences, pupils develop confidence, creativity and an understanding of the elements of music.

We believe every child should have the opportunity to learn an instrument. From Year 1 onwards, pupils experience a range of instruments, culminating in Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET). Music is also embedded throughout school life through singing assemblies, performances and listening opportunities that expose children to music from around the world.

Beyond the classroom, pupils can participate in our school choir and access individual instrumental tuition through external music specialists. These opportunities help to nurture talent and foster a lifelong love of music.

By the time our pupils leave primary school, they will:
